Clueless...

Some people are just clueless. Standing outside school, waiting to pick a couple of the younger ones up, a mother I know (vaguely) came up to chat. I couldn't even tell you her name, don't remember the last time I had spoken with her, but I 'know' her from around town. She said something about us wanting to adopt, and I said, very proudly, "Yes, he's right here!" and motioned to Pipo who was standing just a bit in front of me with some friends. She looked surprised and asked all the usual questions about when and how and where from.

So the conversation moves on, and later on, Pipo looks over his shoulder calling "Mom!" to tell me something. This woman taps me on the shoulder and with a look of amazement, says "Oh, that's so cute... he calls you mom?"

WHAT??? I just looked at her for a minute with my jaw hanging open at a loss for words. Finally I looked at her and said, "well I AM his mom, what else would he call me?"

She suddenly needed to attend to one of her kids... go figure. Some people just need to be slapped.

Oh my! I can't tell you how many people have asked my husband or I, "What do they (our adopted kids) call you?" Huh? What do you THINK they call us? Unbelievable!

Oh that is so cute, you call him son. DOH!

Sometimes the stupidity of people amaze me. I guess it shouldn't though.

Unbelievable. I never adopted in my life, nor do I know anyone that is real close to me that has.

But my reaction to it is wonderful.

I think someone has to have a huge heart to open their life up to a child and bring them into their life as if they gave birth to them.

I'm sure the bond is not that different?

Anyone can have a baby, but being a Mom is special and hardwork.

Oh geez. Seriously, it just never ceases to amaze me -- this journey that we're on and the *varied* experiences along the way. The hardest thing is that it is only a while later that you think of all the millions of things you *coulda/shoulda* said if you weren't so taken aback by these people's RIDICULOUS reactions/actions. ... Like, I woulda loved to seen her reaction if you had quickly turned to her and said: "Yeah, I know, I was thinking the same thing about you--I think it is just *SO CUTE* when your kids call you 'mom' too!!!"
Geez. Mostly I just want to look 'em in the eye and say, quite plainly, "Getta Life."
